Senioritis

We have all heard the term, its used in high school and college. It leaves instructors grimacing and seniors slacking. Now, whether it is a real thing or an excuse to flop is a whole other matter.

“I think there is a certain psychological aspect to senioritis that isn’t real, we build up all our procrastination and bank it under this pretext, but I mean also. On the flip side seniors get so close to graduation, check out mentally, stop looking at email or grades; in a sense it is a real thing.”

Urban dictionary defines Senioritis as,

A crippling disease that strikes high school seniors; while senioritis isn’t really a physical disease, it is a phenomena that happens when a high school senior looks at the finish line of their high school life and says to themselves, “I’m done!” before they have actually completed the work they need to graduate.

Here are a few of the early signs.

  • Poor grades
  • Incomplete assignments
  • Cutting class
  • Overall increased laziness

The number one symptom:

  • Apathy towards the future

The consequences of seniorities can last a lifetime on the student affected and in more severe cases even the family.

“I guess to stay motivated I just remind myself that the sooner I get everything done the sooner I can get out of this place and start my life.” Said senior, Alondra Novoa.

So far, there is only one known cure for Senioritis and that, is graduation.
