Serving the season up

As the air becomes cooler and crisper, many sports seasons wrap up. The first to end was tennis. Their season was the shortest out of all the sports, packing all matches and tournaments into two quick months. Many players will miss their teammates and matches.

“I loved getting closer with all the new people,” said junior Amy Lehman. “My favorite part was singing on the bus rides home.”

On away games, the tennis team sang the Alma Mater and the Fight Song as they arrived back to the building. Lehman has been playing tennis for two years. She said that this season went well because she won the majority of her matches.

“I don’t like the girls that throw temper tantrums when they lose against me,” said Lehman.

This tennis season Lehman played singles at JV matches, and played doubles with junior Kaitlyn Henderson at tournaments. Lehman said she liked singles because she could work on making her skills better, but she also liked doubles because there was always someone there to back her up if she missed hitting the ball.

“It was a good season,” said senior Lauren Sullivan. “I won more matches than I thought I was going to. It was fun getting to play with all my friends.”

Sullivan has been playing tennis for three years. Two of those years were spent on varsity.

“I liked playing games at practice and playing doubles,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan’s favorite game to play was wipeout, which consists of getting your whole team on your side of the tennis court before the other team. Her least favorite thing about this season was playing higher-leveled girls and playing girls that were un-sportsman like. Her favorite out of doubles and singles was singles because if she messed up, she didn’t feel bad like she did in doubles.

“The season went okay,” said freshmen Bayan Salan. “Everyone was nice. The team was like a family.”

This was Salan’s first year playing tennis. She loved meeting everyone, but didn’t like when her opponent didn’t call the lines right, or when she played someone mean.

Overall, the varsity girls finished 7-6 for their season, and second in conference.
