Boeding Buzz: Thor: The Dark World

Blog by: Jake Boeding
Being one of two Marvel films to have been released so far after the titanic movie, Thor: The Dark World looks to snowball off the success of the Avengers and wow audiences everywhere.  After seeing the movie, it can be said the cast and crew come undeniably close to this goal.  With beautiful visual effects, a plot that keeps you on the edge of your toes, and stellar acting performances, spearheaded by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Thor: The Dark World proves to be a noteworthy superhero flick.

As stated, the visual effects of this movie are at times jaw dropping.  Asgard, the setting where most of this movie takes place. The buildings and scenery that surround them look very realistic and make this fantasy world believable.  The cosmic powers of villains and heroes alike look deadly as they travel through the air, and even the tiniest cracks in the earth show the passion of the developers about this film.

However, The Dark World really shines because of the acting performances.  Chris Hemsworth as Thor proves to be a mighty choice for the casting agency and Natalie Portman’s Dr. Jane Foster has all the quirkiness and sentimentality the character needs.  Yet, the performance that stands out among these great ones is that of Tom Hiddleston’s.  The viewer can tell Hiddleston has had a lot of time to delve into the character of Loki.  Whether it is his lighthearted jabs as a jokester or his darkest mindset as the villain, Hiddleston portrays every ounce of Loki with perfection and will leave the viewer speechless by his wonderful performance.  Couple this with a plot that will have you guessing until the end of the movie, and maybe even after, and you have yourself a terrific film.

While Thor: The Dark World doesn’t completely match up to some of Marvel Studio’s best films, it certainly blows most superhero sequels out of the water (does anyone remember Iron Man 2?).  With all of the great accomplishments this movie has, it’s hard to give it anything less than the rating of: MUST SEE.
