Junior Liban Samatar placed first at Cross Country Conference on Thursday, Oct. 13. Northmen News caught up with the champion to ask him about his training and future.
Northmen News: What was it like to win conference?
Liban Samatar: It felt great. It’s hard. The course sucked, and had a lot of hills.
NN: What did you do to prepare for conference?
LS: Train a lot. Prepare physically and mentally.
NN: What do you plan on doing in the future?
LS: My goal’s to go to state and be all state this year.
NN: What do you do in the offseason?
LS: I do more distance, and during winter I do indoor track.
NN: Are you on any offseason teams?
LS: I think we go to regionals as a team, maybe nationals.
NN: Do you ever cross train [train with another sport during offseason]?
LS: No, I just sit on the couch and eat. I chill with my goons.
NN: Have you ever come close to winning conference before?
LS: No.
NN: Do you plan on running cross country after high school?
LS: Yeah, I want to go to MU, that’s my first choice, if not Maple Woods.
